Poetry and short stories that are able to capture such raw feelings for the reader It consists of 5 parts: blue pills, happy pills, adrenaline shots, psychedelics, and sleeping pills.

This is my very first time reading a book written by @cotypoems, and I regret it so much that I’m late to the party. My Medicine is the author of a third collection of poetry and short stories, and I’m urging you right now to pre-order it. You honestly won’t regret buying it. Not only is the book’s appearance beautiful, but the content is equally mesmerising.

Let’s talk about Blue Pills first; this part reminds me of my old self. I’m feeling lost with a broken heart. It hit so close to home, and this is exactly what I felt back then. There is this one of the poem that breaks me apart: “Hello, Dad.” I cried when I read it.

    “I’ll love you,
even if you don’t love me back.” – To the moon

Next, we have Happy Pills. That’s definitely the current me right now. The happiest moment of my whole life was when I think I found my very own true love.

    “You are my everything
my world and my life,” – I’ll protect you

Third are the adrenaline shots. Like the name itself, my confidence level goes beyond the sky. It skyrocketed, and I feel good about it. More on loving yourself, boosting your confidence, and getting you back on your feet.

“Weaknesses turn into strength at times,
    and strengths only exist,
when weaknesses are recognized.” – Weakness/Strength

The next part is psychedelics, and well, I love this one because of its uniqueness. It is like a puzzle or riddle, and I enjoy reading them, especially the alphabet ones. I’m amazed at how the author is so creative and very, very talented. I legit fell in love more with poetry after reading this part.

Last but not least, sleeping pills, where I expected some lullaby short stories but no. The first short story made me cry already. I love that the short stories are in the fantasy/sci-fi genre. enjoyable read, and I adore the writing style. More short stories, please!

A mesmerizing collection of poems and short stories, beautifully written and heartrendingly relatable. Truly a gift in writing form, My Medicine offered comforts in forms of poetry for those who suffers from heartbreak, grief and sorrow yet there are still love and hugs to be given and accepted

Divided into 5 different parts, each beared different themes. Started off with Blue Pills: on heartbreak, Happy Pills told you on love and their magnitude, Adrenaline Shots is filled with valuable life lessons, Psychedelics is the most experimental and the most unique flavor in this poetry to me as it have some of the best poem and also weirdly disjointed yet it work somehow. Last part is Sleeping Pills, a collection of short stories that featured various characters with genres of science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary. For me, the best part is Sleeping Pills because I’m a huge fan of short stories and the author delivered this part so well! Im in love with how diverse the stories are from future technologies of bionics and defying mortality, journal entries of a loving husband and the twist you didnt expect, the merpeople/scifi element, classic fantasy of a hero defeated greater enemy with a sidekick, and snippets of conversations on love and heartbreaks

I love how unique each section was. To describe them in one word for each part: blue pills – heart rending, happy pills – stunning, adrenaline shots – enchanting, psychedelics – charming, sleeping pills – hypnotic. To someone like me who rarely reads poetry, I was truly enthralled by this book, to be immersed in the prose and feel so many emotions at once with each page were magnificent in some ways. The stories I liked the most were Pseudo-immortals and Mice and the government. I hope we can get a collection of the author’s short stories, it will be so nice!

    pov: i rarely read poetry.

the kind of book that you can always get back to, after leaving it untouched for god knows how long, even though i’ll doubt it’ll be left untouched since you’ll find yourself flipping more pages of the book.

my medicine – poetry & short stories are divided into five parts: blue pills, happy pills, adrenaline shots, psychedelics, and sleeping pills. i personally love ‘blue pills’ the most, ofc it would be my most annotated part. maybe because it’s something that i resonate with, so it makes sense why this part is my favourite. some poems hit close to home, i always end up making a 🙂 face reading each line. for the other four parts, i enjoyed some poems/short stories more than the others.

there are also some poems that i couldn’t really comprehend, especially the ones that start with the same alphabets (but it’s cool tho). but i think that’s the point of poetry, everyone understands and interprets it differently. i’m happy if anyone would love to share your thoughts on the poems with me when you read it!! 🥹🫶🏻

since most of the short stories in here are fantasy/sci-fi, it was just fine for me because these are not my usual genre. nonetheless, one thing for sure is that i love Charissa’s writing style when writing short stories. i’d definitely love to have Charissa writes a contemporary fictional book because her humour >>>>>!! looking forward for more short stories/novel (👀) writing from the author ✨

plus point: some lines remind me of taylor swift’s songs.

now i’m taking a special moment to appreciate the physical copy of this book—stunning cover, beautiful spine, black sprayed edges, and SO floppy. it’s everything you ever wanted in a book.

personally, i really think this book’s WORTH your money— LOTS of poems up for your interpretation (and annotation, to make it more interesting) 🌻

An enthralling experience to a wonderful sequence of proses that hits your soul even in the most straightforward way.
    _
I feel that this year had been a very experimental year for me as I dive into various genres that I was not familiar with and I’m glad that this book gave me a breath of fresh air to the world of poetry.

For someone who is relatively new in the poetry scene, I had honestly enjoyed my ride with this book. It came to a point that I felt that I was missing quite a bit for not really finding a poetry book that actually catered my taste, and this one is definitely a start to many more to come.

Divided into 5 Parts, My Medicine is a collection of poetry and short stories that mostly revolves around the themes of : Hope, Love, Loss and Gaining Your Self Again. Its interesting how each theme has been arranged according to the ‘pills’ that are ‘prescribed’ to us (readers) in forms of poetry, either to soothe us, to gain strength or mostly to explore that love comes in forms that you least expect.

My 5 takeaways from each Part of the book:-
Blue Pills : Prescribed When You’re Filled with Heartache
Reminded me of my youth, in the desperation of loving and losing someone you love.
It took me back to my emo days where a smile from my crush can make my whole day and a simple argument can make everything seem wrong.

Happy Pills : Prescribed for Smiles and Warmth
It gave us a sense that life is too short and there are more ways to gain hope and continue living, in the most unexpected ways.

Adrenaline Shots : Prescribed for Boost of Energy
Revolves around the themes of Growth and in ways to live life to its fullest.

Psychedelics : Prescribed for Pain in Life
The most experimental and where the author’s talents in writing unleashed.
Its a bit dark but it also gave us hope to live through tough times.

Sleeping PIlls : Prescribed Before Bedtim
Collection of 7 short stories and lowkey petitioning for author to write a collection of short stories as well.
Best story that I personally love: Pseudo-Immortals.

Overall, the whole collection is one that felt like being administered the correct form of drugs for the conditions that we have at the time. Each part of this book is a medicine for your sole, where each prescription in the form of words on paper can warm your heart, ease your pain and make you feel that you’re not really truly alone in this world.

And fitting to its title, its truly the best Medicine for us all.

I really love Charissa writing , ever since I’ve read her previous books . My medicine is her third poetry & short stories book consist of 5 chapters – blue pills , happy pills , adrenaline shots , psychedelics and sleeping pills .

Each chapter really resonates the progression nicely from heartbroken , found love again , up until life lessons and motivation in life .

Every one of us experienced heartbroken and believes in love again . Hence , blue pills and happy pills could relate to anyone who are in that phase – before , after or even currently.

Meanwhile , adrenaline shots chapter is my most favourite chapter . Quite relatable as it speaks about life lesson , love yourself, you do you and motivation to back up again.

The name of the chapter itself – psychedelics is one of the peculiar yet creative one . From the missing alphabet, upside down fonts , word by alphabetical order is brilliantly unique. However, in this chapter I could not feel connected to it.

Sleeping pills is a short stories part. Even though, most of the stories is in the sci-fi / fantasy genre which is not my forte. But , I still immensely attached to it . I like how those stories indirectly portrayed some points/issues such as mental health , power vs humanity , about love & appreciate/be grateful of yourself as each one of us is different & unique.

Thus, get yourself a copy of this nice book.

    Hello my favourite lovelies,
Welcome to the third pit stop on this book tour!

Now, this book is divided into 4 categories; Blue Pills, Happy Pills, Adrenaline Shots, Psychedelics and Sleeping Pills.

You know what, I’m just grateful that I could not relate to Blue Pills anymore. If I read this book last year, I’d probably disappear into the void. You won’t see me again.

My favourite is Happy Pills. It’s kinda like the Lover Era by Taylor Swift. Everything written in this category is just very hopeful and wholesome. I’m a hopeless romantic and my personal favourites are The Girl who was Everything (page 80) and Aspire (page 84), it’s just so beautiful. Short but very well written. Took my feelings and put it into words. I love it.

Adrenaline Shots mostly touch on self-love, which I know a lot of us need and Psychedelics is just a different breed. I enjoyed this one too! It’s unique and kinda groovy when I think about it. The upside down words and letters, the wavy sentences, I love the layout. It fits the concept perfectly!

But what is up with the first story in Sleeping Pills? The book just validated me as a crybaby– unnecessary, bestie.

I find this book amazing. I love it. From A to Z, I love it. Call me biased, I don’t care.

It’s been a long while since I last read poetry and short stories so My Medicine was a really refreshing palate to my usual taste in genre.
I love that the poetry progressed from Blue Pills which centers around heartbreak to Happy Pills where you find love again and next to Adrenaline shots about life lessons. It depicts very much how real life is, well mine at least.
Reading My Medicine felt like I was reading a diary into my life 🥺.

Being the hopeless romantic that I am, my favourite section of the book is ‘Happy Pills’ and it gave me a much needed serotonin boost.
‘Adrenaline shots’ has a lot of life advice which I’d find myself turning to for a pick me up. 💊

Meanwhile my younger self would definitely resonate more with ‘Blue Pills’ but I am over my sad girl era BUT I hope to all the girls out there who are going through this, know that you are worth more than the boy who gave you the empty promises to and I hope you find it in you to love yourself first.
[𝘖𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘺𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘮, 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬!]

I enjoyed reading the short stories too, they were interesting and Charissa has a way of telling stories animatedly to keep you on your toes.
Albeit the stories being just a few pages but it brought weight of emotions. You have to read it yourself to find out!

Overall, My Medicine was a great dose of fun; from sad to happy moments! I’d recommend it to anyone who loves reading poetry and stories on heartbreak, found love and motivations. Not only that, but you also get a beautiful foiled cover with sprayed edges and FLOPPINESS.

Swipe to see some of my fav poems!
