Pannir Selvam – A Poetry Collection (Part 2)

Pannir Selvam a/l Pranthaman was born on July 31, 1987, as the third of six children in an ethnic Indian family in Ipoh, Malaysia. He was well known by many people in his life for his enthusiasm and his capability as a young, hard-working man. Pannir was described as a kind person who helped those in need and was loving toward his family. On September 3rd, 2014, the 27-year-old Pannir was arrested at the Woodlands Checkpoint after being discovered possessing drugs while entering Singapore. During his trial in the High Court, he defended himself by saying that he was acting on orders and was unaware of the contents of his delivery, as he had been promised that the proceeds would be large and promising, allowing him to recover his financial losses. In May 2017, Pannir was found guilty of his crime, thus awaiting his death sentence in Singapore. He wrote these poems while serving his sentence.

An Ink

An ink is like a light
It sheds gaze upon people’s plights
An is like a voice for the voiceless
The truth it reveals shall prevail regardless
Trace your hand on the path
Travel by my pen
Feel the moist of the ink
It’s blood I pour in.

P1

The prisoner of the past?

They said don’t be a prisoner of your past
But why…
When I leave my past
And move forward fast
They do their best
To make the past last?

P2

Listen… if you want to…

We have to be tough,
Because life is so fragile.
Life is so precious,
Move with cautions.
To have a clear view
Live it through rear view
Very few knew
Before their time is due.

P3

Vice-versa

What stops us from being human?
At times we have forgotten that we all are just human beings.

P4

Ego

If all he sees is his ego,
Then, for sure no where will he go

P5

Empathy

There would be time
We will feel alone
Yet we’ll learn to go through it
To be there for someone.

P6

You will prevail

There would be tough days ahead
Yet, just as before you will prevail

P7

Warrior

There’s a warrior reside inside
Each soul that asked questions
And seeks answers
That many others are blind to.

P8

Death, mercy and forgiveness

The death itself
Is not death in death row
But mercy and forgiveness is…
