Poems by Khayma Balakrishnan

Colours.

Specks of stars in the night sky
Perfect for wishes
Transforming into dew at dawn
Sliding through my fingers

Little rays of morning sunlight,
Kisses my skin,
Ferocious noon heat,
Forms beads of sweat

Pink hues at dusk
For the child within me
Rolling clouds and flyaway birds
While I laugh in glee

Colours of my day
Peppered with life,
Moments, strung like beads
Making it worthwhile

Teach me too.

Teach me too,
The art of breaking a heart,
Of leaving it in shatters,
And never moving a hair,

Teach me too,
The art of breaking a heart,
And walking away,
With no regrets

Teach me too,
The art of breaking a heart,
And feeling numb,
Towards tears and pleas

Teach me too,
The art of breaking a heart,
For an art so fine,
Needs a talent that shines…

To love.

Dedicated to Rinesh Doshi Bhupendra

Love,
Is to sit by you
Drinking a cold brew
Looking forward to
A life we’ll pursue

Love,
Is to hold your hand
While trying to understand
That this was a plan
One so grand
That you are my man

Love,
Is to walk by your side
During high tides
And rough rides
Relying on higher powers to guide
Us through life
