FB: Christabel Lee
Christabel Lee (she/her) is a full-time student, aspiring poet and dreamer. She has been writing poetry since the age of seven, and occasionally writes micro fiction too. Currently, she lives in Selangor and studies at King’s InterHigh Online Schooling. Her first poem was a short nocturnal, and it was published on a blog for works by child writers. Since then, her work has been featured in her school’s newspaper, as well as at school events. She hopes to study Law or English Literature at university, and to complete her first poetry chapbook in two years. In her free time, she enjoys reading historical and modern literary fiction, as well as learning about history (Egyptology is one of her main areas of interest). Her works are usually centered on love and the human condition; as of late, she has also been writing micro and experimental poetry.
The Luckiest Thing (For Me)
It’s hard to say goodbye,
and I’ll miss you. Out
with the fancy stuff: no
cryptic language, cloaked
in the mystery of
metaphor (bah!)
this is honesty, at its plainest and rawest.
For once, I’ll stop
playing the poet
on the page,
be the boring
unremarkable dull
Everyman instead.
yes, it’s hard, but i never said i wasn’t lucky –
lucky to have known you.
People, they come and go
like dreams
across a lifetime
but those who matter
will always be somewhere
in your heart
and that’s the luckiest thing for me – you are.
Brevity
breath upon breath
the fleeting minutes
that pass us by,
in the blink of an
eye, each one rich
in meaning and memory –
isn’t it magnificent?
eternity in brevity…
Ecstasis (Ecstasy)
Take my hand,
gaze into my eyes, and show me
how the brightest stars gleam in yours
I am lost in the sprawling cosmos
of your love,
and enthralled
by the universe of your presence.
Like shooting stars,
every moment
flashes by, and
I quiver
at the magic of your smile,
and the sparkle
of your luminous laughter.
And Venus beams brightly
upon us tonight,
blessing us
with promises
of hope and laughter and love
as we dance, passionately
beneath her tender rays.
So, take my hand,
gaze into my eyes, and show me
how
the brightest stars gleam in yours
I see a world beyond this
where you are my heaven, my earth
and my life
And that is where I am, now
in this very moment,
when you hold me
and tell me that you love me.
Everything
All this time, I’ve kept
these words, these feelings – all meant
for you, walled up
inside my lonely soul
All this time, I’ve locked away
the truth, the enormity
of what we’ve found together
silently, in my heart – within a narrow cage of fear.
Now, I don’t want to hide
this sun, this fire
which shines between
us any longer
I refuse to hide
its light, its glory
anymore, though ours may be
the only dawn
in a world of infinite nights –
the sole flame that burns
unwaveringly, when all is cold and dark.
If I had to count
everything you’ve given me, everything
we’ve shared
every word,
smile, and precious memory
that lives within us still
it’d be like counting
all the bright stars
in the vast heavens –
an endeavour beautiful
in its sheer impossibility.
Forever is not a lifetime,
a promise, nor the hope
of something
that will outlast time –
forever is all that
we’ve made
in these fleeting days
for our hearts
to remember, to cherish
as long as we can, as long as we wish to.
So, once more, I thank you for everything
with these words
that are
brave, fearless and true –
I know you will understand.
Mosaic
How can I journey on
when the world has shattered
Beneath my feet?
The pieces of my life
Are shards of glass
That wound me
With every step I take.
Now, I raise my eyes
Desperately searching
For the dawn
Yet all I see is night
Dark, foreboding, never-ending night.
What can I do, but try
To gather the pieces
Day by day, breath by breath
Painting them the colours of the rainbow
With my laughter and tears, dreams and fears
Till they shine
Even in this darkness?
Then, one day, I’ll forge them
Into one beautiful masterpiece
Complete, yet incomplete
Broken, yet whole –
Mosaic.
