The light was streaming through at the end
As I climbed the wooden steps, so old and weathered
I heard the call to climb, one step at a time
And with each step, I drew closer to the unknown

I couldn’t remember what I’d hoped to find
But I dreamed of ancient temples, statues, and a view
I predicted, pondered, and believed
But fear and worry crept in as the climb grew harder

The sweat of my brow mixed with that of the builders before me
The tropical heat was a blessing, the cicadas sang
The gentle wind danced with the trees
But what was waiting at the end of the climb?

A blue sky came into view and I took a deep breath
But as I lunged forward, I fell, tumbling through the air
Cotton clouds surrounded me as the wind blew in my face
But there was no fear, for it was a long fall

I saw the world from a new perspective
The sun setting and the moon rising in an endless cycle
It was a sight to behold, but was the climb worth it?
I couldn’t say, for I was still falling, but the fall was expected

As I looked forward to the ground, I remembered
Where I found my courage to take that first step, and knew
That the journey down was just as important as the climb.
